Bangor Hydro Electric Company

Our Commitment to the Community

Every year, Bangor Hydro employees work tirelessly raising money to support the many worthy organizations in the communities where we live and work. Our United Way campaigns are consistently among the most successful in Eastern Maine, thanks to the generosity of our employees. Combined with a 100 percent corporate match, Bangor Hydro’s United Way campaign finished with a record $110,000 raised.

In 2010, Bangor Hydro made a three-year, $30,000 charitable commitment to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine in support of their efforts to expand their programming into Penobscot County. Many employees have made a personal commitment as well to BBBS by giving of their time to serve as a Big Brother or Sister, serving on a board or committee, or participating in various fundraisers such as Bowl for Kids' Sake.

Our five-year commitment to The Jackson Laboratory totaling $100,000 helps further important research affecting people all over the world, yet takes place right here in Maine - in Bangor Hydro's service territory.

UnitedWay

We believe commitment to the community means so much more than writing a check. Bangor Hydro has been recognized for its giving and volunteerism by United Way of Eastern Maine, the March of Dimes, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, the Bangor Y, and many others.

Bangor Hydro's Beliefs on Giving

With so many worthy causes in need of assistance, how does Bangor Hydro decide which organizations and programs to help?

  • We believe in contributing where we can truly make a difference - both with our time and our financial resources
  • We choose causes where we believe our impact will be a source of pride for our employees.
  • We give where we live. We want our employees to see the differences our contributions are making in the communities in which we live.
