Bangor Hydro Electric Company Celebrates Safety Milestone

Bangor, ME-- One million hours without a day of work lost due to an injury was cause for celebration at Bangor Hydro Electric Company today. The employees of Bangor Hydro Electric Company have worked safely, without a lost-work day injury for 21 months.

Bangor Hydro President Rob Bennett explained why safety is so important at Bangor Hydro. "The answer is simple. While there is no denying that it makes good business sense to work safely, the single most important reason is that I want every employee to arrive home safely at the end of every work day. It's also a well-known fact that strong safety practices in place at work carry over into the personal lives of BHE employees and that makes this a safer community in which to live."

"These accomplishments are no small achievement considering the type of work we do. In the 90s it was not unusual to see a large number of lost work days due to injuries. It would only take one short-cut; one seemingly small error to change someone's life forever. We value our employees too much to let that happen," said Safety and Occupational Health Officer Mike Monroe.

"This did not happen by accident," said Janet Scully, Chair of the Bangor Hydro Employee Safety Team. "Employees have made behavioral changes and continue to work smarter."

Bennett publicly thanked each and every employee at Bangor Hydro for making this day possible. Employees were notified of the achievement Wednesday and celebrated with cake and each received a gift in appreciation for their hard work.
