*Correction* Bangor Hydro is Working with its Vendor to Resolve Payment-Processing Error
Please note the problem was with the payment-processing vendor rather than the bill-processing vendor, as previously stated. Customer bills are not affected.
Bangor Hydro Electric Company is working with its third-party payment vendor to resolve a payment processing error that occurred today, leaving about three percent of its customers with duplicate deductions made from their banking accounts.
Bangor Hydro's authorized payment-processing vendor is working to reverse the duplicate deductions today. The error, which affected about 4,000 customers who made payment by check through the U.S. mail, occurred with Bangor Hydro's third-party payment processing vendor. The error affected transactions received Tuesday, October 13, and were withdrawn from customer accounts today.
"The transactions appeared on customer accounts today, and the bank is working to reverse the duplicate transaction today to prevent further problems with customer accounts," said Robert Lysaght, Vice President of HR and Customer Operations.
"Customers should be assured that this is not a case of identity theft or fraud, and no customer information has been compromised," said Lysaght. "This error was not a result of any unauthorized access to their information."
"We appreciate the patience of our customers as we work through this problem," he said.
