Welcome
to Bill Analysis, Bangor Hydro's online electric consumption estimator.
Bill
Analysis lets you click on items in your home and see what it
costs, estimated, to run each item. It also asks you to enter
information from your Bangor Hydro bill so you can compare an
actual bill with this estimate.
If
you have questions about your electric bill after completing
your Bill Analysis, call Bangor Hydro's Customer Service at
947-2414 (Bangor area) or 1-800-499-6600 (toll free).
Getting
Started
To begin, complete the blanks under "Your
Bill" below. You may also add the information requested under
"Last Year" if you choose. If you'd like your name and
the address where the electrical service is delivered to appear
on your usage report, you may enter it here also (this data is
not stored). Click the Start Bill Analysis button and you'll
be taken to the main Bill Analysis screen, where you can enter
detailed information about your electric use.
Updated
totals will appear at the top of the screen, and a Usage Report
option is available at the end of the form. For more detailed
instructions, read the notes below.
*Last
Year information and your name and service address are optional.
If the Billing Address is different from the actual service
location, enter the service location's address.
Instructions
First,
once you have a copy of the bill you wish to check, you´ll enter
the following information in the form above:
- Total
kWh for the Month, and
- Service
Days in the billing period.
You
may add, if you choose, your name and the street address of the
home for which you're doing the Bill Analysis (not necessarily
your mailing address).

With
that information, click on the "Start Bill Analysis..."
button. You'll see the Bill Analysis form. The top portion of
the screen will display running totals once you begin completing
the form. In the upper left, you will see the calculated "kWh
per day" usage. Additionally, you will see two totals in
the center, one showing your estimated electricity usage for the
summer months ("Non-Heating"), one for the winter months
("Heating"). You do not need to enter any information
in these fields at the top.
Below
the maroon bar labeled "Start Here..." you will find
ten sections, each with several questions. Please read
these questions carefully and complete them as accurately
as possible. If you run into trouble, simply click on the help
icon
found in the header bar of each section.
Creating
and Printing a Usage Report
Once
you've completed all the questions in the ten sections, you will
have the option to "Create Usage Report" for
your records. (The information you enter online is not
stored.) By pressing this button, a window will open which displays
a detailed report based on your responses. It is broken down into
two pages, one for Heating season, and one for non-Heating season.
You can print this report by:
- Pressing
Ctrl-P,
- Clicking
the Printer icon in your browser, or
- Selecting
"Print...": from the File menu of your browser.
Results
If the results that Bill Analysis reports
are significantly lower than what your bill states, call
Bangor Hydro and we´ll review your energy usage.
Bill
Analysis cannot provide an exact number for your energy
consumption. Many of our residential customers have usage requirements
that most of our customers do not (for example: home office,
auto shop, extra lighting, etc.).
Bill
Analysis vs. Quick Check
Bill Analysis is a more detailed look
at what makes up the kilowatt hour uses in your monthly bill than
what Quick Check offers (after using Bill Analysis, you can click
a link to Quick Check and get a quick second opinion).
Bill
Analysis will require anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour
or so, for best results, whereas Quick Check takes about a minute
or two. You're welcome to enter your best estimates, but for best
results, review the questions, walk through your home, and take
notes on your electric usage.
Enjoy
this computerized analysis of kilowatt hour usage in your home.
Remember, the more accurate you are in responding to the questions,
the more accurate this analysis of your kWh usage will be.
