Emera Maine Distribution Rate Request

Starting on September 27, customers will receive legal notice of Emera Maine’s request to change distribution rates. We want to share some information with you about the request and why we’ve made it.

Rate
Request

Emera Maine is requesting an increase to one of the rates on the electric bill, which is the Distribution Rate. The increase to just the distribution rate component is 12%.

Electric
Bill Impact

A residential customer with typical usage of 500 kWh has an electric bill of around $82. If our request is approved, the requested increase would add $3.60 a month to the total bill or an increase of 4-5%.

Our
Investments

We have made investments in reliability, storm hardening & resiliency, and customer service to enable us to deliver a standard of service that both Emera Maine and the Commission agree that our customers deserve.

Storm
Resiliency

We’ve made investments in the health of our distribution system to harden the system against storms. A strong, resilient system is one that will hold up better in storms. The more outages we can proactively prevent, the faster we can fully recover.

System
Reliability

Nearly 90% of our State is covered in trees. We’ve enhanced our tree program to identify and remove more trees and limbs that are in declining health and will cause power interruptions if they break or fall. We’re also looking to trim more frequently to keep limbs away from lines.

Customer
Service

We understand your time is important and if you need to reach us we want to get to your call quickly. We’re committed to meeting the standard of answering calls in 30 seconds or less and we’ve made investments to deliver on that commitment.

If you have additional questions or comments about our rate request, please email us and let us know. Information on proceeding participation is provided in your Customer Notice or you can visit the MPUC online case management system.
